Free Movies
April 29th, 2009
You might have heard I currently have a bit of extra time on my hands. So today, Tim and I went to a pretty bad movie (by bad I mean good. Lots of explosions and car chasing with a funny unplausible plot…always good for excitement and a laugh) and were the only ones in the theater.
I think in that case - you being the only ones in the theater - the movie should be free. The movie theater is not making any money on the movie and they were going to show it anyway, so why shouldn’t we get to see if for free?! We don’t get movie treats, so there is no mess…so what’s the harm? Give us our movie for free. Someone needs to listen to my soapbox and make this happen.

Brilliant idea. A empty movie theatre stimulus.
So does this day get tacked onto the end of school too?
I’m sure I will have to make up the swine flu days. We also have today off…so I’m currently slated to end June 29th.
Sounds like if things keep up you are going to a year-round school schedule! I hope you enjoy your vacation when you get it!
I am motivated for you to finish school as early as possible so we can see you! ….but I may have to disagree. Rather than being letting some lovebirds see a movie for free if they are the only ones, I think it would be “good business” for the theaters to instead have a “flat group rate” on movies. Lets say $100. This show plays for $100. If there are 2 people, you have to pay $50 each. If there are 200 people, you only have to pay $.50. The movie theater has guaranteed income, and you are motivated to invite friends. Sort of a party atmosphere to see how many people you can get to come. This would really make going to a movie much different than just being a big screen alternative to watching it at home. Its about the atmosphere!
But I don’t have many friends and I usually don’t like popular movies. And I am cheap. So, scratch the above.
wow, I had managed to almost completely ignore the pandemic. Now that it is tangentially affecting someone I know, I feel like it is suddenly more newsworthy. If more people start to think it newsworthy you’ll almost certainly have more theaters to yourself, not to mention restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, sporting events and other areas where large groups enjoy congregating and exhibiting flu like symptoms to each other.
Seriously though, hope all remains well with you and yours, and all at your school.
