September Recommendations

September 15th, 2007

I have been wanting to blog about a few things that have recently caught my attention.

TV show:
Friday Night Lights

Tim mentioned this show recently in his blog and I have to echo his sentiments. This show has become better with each episode. Everyone please rent the first season and watch the upcoming second season so I can continue to enjoy the time spent watching it without fear of it being canceled.

Music:
Band of Horses

The first album is great - looking forward to the second release any day now. Listen to “Monsters.”

Cheese:
Fresh Chevre rolled in fresh dill.

By fresh, I mean farmer’s market fresh. I was given a free sample and hooked. Also noteworthy is Chevre rolled in black pepper. yum.

Snack:
Nutella spread on a rice cake.

Hazelnut and chocolate….nothing is wrong with this combination.

Pizza:
Garlic Mashed Potato Pizza from Bar

I know you are skeptical, but this is really amazing.

Weather:
New Haven is perfect right now. Anyone want to visit?!

The Rain in Spain in falls mainly in Connecticut

September 11th, 2007

I never realized that growing up in Montana did not prepare me for rainy weather - real rainy weather. I cannot remember a time when it rained for more than a few hours in Montana and if it rained that long, everyone was shocked and would be talking about the great amounts of rain for the next few days. I have never owned an umbrella and always wondered why people would waste money on such objects when in no time the rain would stop and they could go outside free of the fear of getting wet.

Minnesota and Connecticut have shown me new ways of life. Days of rain. Downpours. Dark rainy afternoons. The need for an umbrella (though I have not yet purchased one). Today is one of those days. Kids at school were waiting in anticipation for school to be canceled because of the amount of rain that was falling (last year we did close early because the rain was starting to wash out the roads). My drive home was slow and required high speed wipers. I was shocked to find people who were not driving with their lights on. It was dark and scary out…which should require your headlights.

On days like today, I like to drink a warm cup of coffee and read a good book. I think I will make it a decaf cup of coffee and the internet. Have a good day.

Bulk

September 9th, 2007

We purchased the hugest pack of toilet paper available from Costco last month. To my horror, the first 5 rolls we have used have not had any perforation. Every time I go to the bathroom, I calculate how long it is going to take us to get through the bulk pack so we can return to a life of toilet paper ease. Today, the curse was broken and we got a great surprise. The roll is perforated. Hooray!
