Hmm…interesting predicament. I say leave the bookshelf exactly where it is. It looks nice. My issue is with the dining room light not hanging right over the table/the table not lining up with the bookshelf. What if you rotated the table 90 degrees and then put the short end of the table flush against that little cut out window? I wonder if the table would stick out too far. Otherwise - I say leave everything as it is. DO NOT get rid of the bookshelf. Overall though, your place is looking lovely!

I am mostly in agreement with Abby - it doesn’t look great but it isn’t ugly. Which is my part of my indecision.

Interesting idea about changing the color, Josh (and yes it is the expidit). I agree, I think with the table and the bookshelf in such a small area, we are a bit over the edge. The black dominates the wall.

Our walls are also two toned and the black bookshelf covers up most of the lighter wall which also makes the room a bit darker.

Jenn, the only problem with moving the sofa is a huge window would be across from the sofa. Which is not a bad thing. I like having the room not centered around the TV, but we also have to admit to ourselves that we like to watch movies so we should at least be able to watch. Also, we are not sure about the depth of room if we turn the sofa. Maybe it would be too crowded? We can try it to see - again, very interesting idea.

Well, the dark color does make it feel pretty heavy. What if you changed the color of it to something lighter? True, the black matches the table, but it might also push it over the edge.

Steph and I have a bookshelf like this (expedit?) and we really love it. But they do tend to dominate the other furniture.

My 2 cents: Love the wall color!!!! I think the bookshelf should go where the sofa (yes it is a sofa…not a couch…not a davenport) currently resides and the sofa should either turn 90 or 180 degrees clockwise. I can’t see the rest of the room, but those are my thoughts.

Your shelf is sort of like The Beast was for us - good for holding things, but felt too big for any of the downstairs rooms and impossible to move upstairs (not that it would’ve fit up there any better) Although, unlike the beast your shelf is not ugly.

Okay, I say it looks big, but it also matches the dining room table nicely and seems to fit in with your decor, so it blends in okay. Basically, it’s not perfect, but it’s so not worth taking it apart and storing it. I say leave it.

Definitely keep it. Exemplifies Tim-N-Nicole style, very organized use of space, and oddly makes room look bigger without looking empty.

We’ve learned that you don’t always NEED an end table on each end of the couch, it’s just easier. And it won’t look off-center with the table if you put something slightly taller than the table in the corner (far left, third picture) like a tall, non-ugly plant or something.

Keep it. That’s what I think. I love that bookshelf and from the pictures, I think it looks great in your dining room/living room! It is a great Tim and Nicole piece of furniture and I think it adds a lot to the room.
