A Warm Globe

December 4th, 2006

We watched An Inconvenient Truth with Al Gore tonight. It was an informative and frightening look at the effects of Global Warming…and may change your mind about what Al Gore stands for (I had previously have only heard about him in jokes and thought that I was supposed to think he always said silly things about the computer - now I have a new Al).

I was proud to become more informed, as opposed to thinking “yeah, yeah, global smobal warming - no one knows much about it.” I feel I have to do my part and at least plug the movie so more people can become informed or find their own way of informing themselves.

Are you informed yet?

I’ve been wanting to watch that when I get home! I actually visited one of the glaciers that they show, Perito Moreno in Argentina. I find it slightly ironic that it is one of the only glaciers in the world that isn’t receding, its maintaining…but it could start receding any day. Anyway, seeing these glaciers and hearing stories about the climate change in Patagonia makes it clear that global warming is definitely happening. What will my dad say when I start talking about this? Let’s hope I don’t receive the dreaded label…environmentalist!

Be careful with those labels. Once I ordered a meal without meat and my dad prayed that I would not turn into a vegetarian.

You actually got to watch An Inconvenient Truth WITH Al Gore? What is he like? Is he as stiff and boring as he seems on tv, or does he loosen up once you popped the popcorn? Is he a Coke or a Pepsi guy? Did you share the couch with him or even a blanket? Inquiring minds want to know!
