IKEA Mishap?
I went to IKEA yesterday in an attempt to get a few items to make our home more home-y. We really needed an area rug for the living room, a coffee table and possibly a picture for the walls (I should say wall because since our apartment has so many windows there are not many walls that need decorating).
As you may know, Tim and I purchased a sage green couch and a khaki chair last week so I was working with that color palette. I ended up finding a great rug with the same green and khaki colors with a red background, but, IKEA only stocked that rug in a size too small for our room. The next three rugs that I liked were also too small or the wrong color. So I end up walking away with a very reasonably priced deep red rug thinking that I would find a picture that would tie the whole thing together.
Next thing I know an IKEA guy is outside the store looking at my cart saying, “Do you need help with that, Lady?” I think he thought my purchases were bigger than my vehicle. Among a few other things, I got a huge picture that has all the right colors.
Enter second guessing thoughts. The picture is HUGE - almost the length of our couch and about two feet from the ceiling. It looks good, but almost too good. People my age don’t have pictures this big. They are just too expensive…but I got mine at IKEA which means it was a steal. But I am having trouble with the fact that it looks like someone else’s room, not my own.

Oh, man, I miss you guys!!
Ah, Nicole - this is the beauty of being a young adult. You get to decorate in a way that pretends you’re a “real” adult - with real furniture and real pictures… not just the stuff you can buy at Target. That’s the beauty of IKEA, too. =) It’s like a rite of passage or something. Like buying your first house.
Oh - and I expect to see pictures of the new place all decorated…
Keep the picture and rug. You’ve officially moved out of the “dorm room decorating” stage of your life.
I don’t think I feel like I am stuck in the “dorm decorating” stage of life, but I am wondering if I have found a style that I am proud to call mine.
